Well-Being in Health Care
- Ways of approaching work that fosters deep growth and renewal
- Working with Grief, Anxiety, and Loss of Joy
- 3 Layers of Resilience - Individual, Cultural, Corporate
- Meditation - If we use the analogy of playing piano, I dont teach how to play Bach or Gospel or Blues rather I teach proper technique that can be applicable to what ever style one ends up being drawn to. While I have had 40 years of training in a variety of styles of meditation, after 20 years of teaching I have realized that all of us respond to different practices but most people get stuck in similar areas that might at first be surprising to discover.
- Yoga Sutras - I specialize in bringing this rich text to life and showing its profound applicability to our lives full of modern difficulties.
- Yamas and Niyamas - They go deeper then we think
- Stages of Samadhi - Understanding the trajectory of awakening
- Meditation - Patanjali's Unique Approach
- A Deep Look at Avidya (universal misunderstanding)
- Meditation - Stage Based Approaches, Mahasi Noting Practices, Tranquil Wisdom Insight Meditation, Mahayana Vajrayana Practices, Zen .
- Anatman - "No-Self" - When asked what his shtick was the Buddha once said "I teach suffering and the end of suffering". Buddhism proposes that the masterkey for reducing this suffering is understanding how the "I" exits and how it does not exist.
- Working with Difficult Mind States - Anxiety, Depression, Loss of Joy, Grief, Etc.
- Bhagavad Gita
- Upanishads
- Atman - The search for the "I" and what is being denied and what is not being denied in the Atman
- The work of St. Teresa of Avila
- Exploring Christian Soteriology
- Towards a Non-Fundamentalism
My Approach
I had an unusual childhood in that I was raised in Advaita Vedanta and Christian traditions and then sent off at a young age to study with the Buddhists. This gave me a deep love and a deep history with these three rich traditions. It also helped me see not just where they are similar but where they are different and opened me into a life long inner fascination with the nuanced articulations of each tradition.
My passion is in bringing the Buddhist, Advaita, and Yoga worldviews to life in a relatable and engaging way to show their applicability and perhaps give us insight into our own life situations. Guided by a scripturally authentic engagement with the great texts of these wisdom traditions I also seek to separate out any of the less authentic new age interpretations.
And while I pursue academic rigor and authenticity, my teaching always comes back to the simple capacity of these different worldview to open our hearts and allow us to live more fully and intimately with the world.
